What I teach

Six things I do, and do properly

I'd rather be genuinely good across a focused range than spread thin. Here's exactly what I take on.

Years 3–9

Any subject, primary through KS3

Maths and English most weeks, but also science, humanities, languages and general study skills. For younger children the work is as much about confidence and habits as content - knowing how to start a question is half the battle.

Years 10–11

GCSE Maths, Science and Spanish

Exam-board specific preparation for AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. Past-paper technique, mark-scheme language, and the handful of topics that quietly cost the most marks. Foundation and Higher, triple and combined science.

Year 7 entry

11+ and independent school entrance exams

Grammar school 11+ (GL and CEM style) and independent school papers, including ISEB Pre-Test and individual school papers. Verbal and non-verbal reasoning, maths, English and creative writing - plus interview practice for schools that ask for it.

A Level

A Level Spanish

Grammar, translation both ways, the set texts and films, essay structure and - the part most students dread - the individual research project and speaking exam. Sessions run largely in Spanish once confidence allows.

Home education

Home schooling support

For families educating at home, I can be the weekly anchor: teaching a subject you'd rather not, planning a term's route through a topic, or simply giving your child another adult to be accountable to. Daytime slots available.

SEN

Special educational needs

Experienced with EHCPs, dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and autism. Sessions are paced, structured and adapted - and I'll happily liaise with your school's SENCo. More on how that works →

What families say

Happy to put you in touch with a current family for a reference before you commit to anything.

Something most tutors don't do

You get your own parent portal

Most tutoring runs on scattered WhatsApp messages and a vague memory of who owes what. Every family here gets a portal instead - everything in one place, from the first session onwards. The three things you will use most:

No app to download - it's just a web page

Your sessions, and what happened in them

What's booked, and a written-up note after every lesson saying what you covered and what's next. No more asking your child how it went and being told “fine”.

The green hours are genuinely free - it's my real diary, not a form. Ask for one and it shows as pending until I confirm. Need an extra session before a mock? Two clicks.

Exactly where you stand on money

What's owed or what's left on a prepaid block, the full history, and how to pay. Check it at two in the morning if you like - no awkward conversation required.

Also in there: two or three targets for the week, which your child ticks off and I can see; and messages, which sit with your child's notes rather than scrolling away in a group chat. And behind the scenes I run my whole week from the other side of the same system, so your notes and your balance aren't typed up later from memory - they're what I'm working from as I go.

Have a proper look round

The demo is fully working - pick one of the made-up families, request a session, read the notes from last week, tick off a target. It is the real thing filled with invented people, so nothing you do there touches anybody's actual records.

When the standard lesson isn't the right lesson

A lot of the children I work with have already had a rough ride at school - they've been told they're not trying, or they've quietly decided they're "just bad at maths". Very often the content isn't the problem. The pace, the noise, the working memory load, or the sheer length of the task is.

One to one online removes most of that. There's no class to keep up with, no one watching, and we can stop and rebuild a foundation from three years ago without anyone noticing.

Tell me as much or as little as you want on the booking form. Nothing is a barrier to booking - it just helps me plan the first session properly.

  • Chunked sessions - short, clearly signposted blocks with planned breaks rather than a solid hour.
  • Predictable structure - the same running order every week, and the child is told what's coming next.
  • Low-demand entry - we start with something they can already do, every single time.
  • Visual and multisensory - colour-coded working, manipulatives on screen, spoken and written instructions together.
  • Overlearning, not racing ahead - content revisited deliberately until it's genuinely secure.
  • Joined up - happy to speak with your SENCo, school or EHCP caseworker where it helps.

Fees & payments

No mystery about what you owe

Every family gets a portal. Sign in whenever you like to see what's been invoiced, what's been paid, and what's left on a prepaid block - no chasing, no awkward messages.

1 Pay as you go

Sessions are added to your portal as they happen and invoiced at the end of each month. Payment by bank transfer within seven days. You'll always see the running total before the invoice arrives.

2 Prepaid blocks

Buy six sessions up front for 5% off. Your portal shows the balance in credit and counts down as sessions are used, so you know exactly how many are left.

3 Cancellations

24 hours' notice and there's nothing to pay - we'll rearrange for another free slot that week where one exists. Shorter notice is charged at the full rate, illness excepted.

Your parent portal

Balance, upcoming sessions, session notes, weekly targets, the booking calendar and a direct message thread with me - all in one place.

Qualifications & safeguarding

Who you're letting into the room

Online tutoring should come with the same checks you'd expect from a school. Here are mine, and you're welcome to ask to see any of them.

How I keep sessions safe

  • Enhanced DBS certificate shared with every family before the first paid session.
  • All contact about a child goes through the parent or carer, never directly to the child.
  • Sessions run on a named account on Zoom or Microsoft Teams - never on personal social media or messaging apps.
  • A written safeguarding and online conduct policy is sent out with your first booking confirmation.
  • Session notes and weekly targets are written up in your portal after every lesson, so you can see exactly what was covered.

Availability

When I teach

Straight from my diary, so you can see whether I'm likely to have room before you get in touch. Nothing is booked from this page - we'll find the slot that works on our call.

What you see here is mostly after school and weekends. Daytime sessions are available on request - home educating families and anyone who would rather work in the morning, just ask on the call and we'll sort something out.

Questions

The things parents usually ask

Start here

Book a free 15-minute call

One short conversation is how everything starts. Just you and me - your child doesn't need to be there. You tell me what's going on, I tell you honestly whether I can help, and if I can't I'll try to point you somewhere better. Nothing is booked or charged off the back of it.

Request your call

I'll come back within 24 hours on weekdays with a couple of times to choose from.
